Having come from a 4850 (which, I think, was about ~£120,) it definitely was an improvement, but it wasn't the mind blowing performance boost I was expecting from a card that I've had numerous such issues in the past 18 months with various AMD cards. Bottom line is you DO pay for stuff according to how difficult they are to make. Though it's not a guarantee, it may be they had a strange setup, and the problem you've encountered is else where.
