Now, the next time you double-click the document in the Finder, it will launch your newly selected application. Win7 wouldn't let me delete them and neither would my trusty kill-by-force apps so I booted with MiniXP and that did the trick. Thanks for posting the tip. RESTART computer, no more authentication required & am able to move files/folders off desktop as usual.Dump both .plist files & restart once should work fine too.Good luck.

Have you tried OPTION 3? I Suddenly can't Open Any Folders, or This PC. I have not made sure everything is perfect, but at this stage all good.
Use Open With This option is convenient when you don't want to bother locating the needed application on your drive. No good because it's a safety feature in Windows 10. So I would just like to say, Thank You Very Much. Some think the Windows 7 file and folder refresh problem might be linked to either a malicious file or some third-party application. So I tried real hard to become an Admin, which will be another story, repeated this thing.
If you believe your Mac is misinformed, and want to force the document to open with the application anyway, you can do so. I look at the picture file and see the pictures on my ipad. Surprisingly only one Restore Point was there, and it was only 10 hours old. Not every application uses a file name (or image name) that is the same as the application name to start.
