Computer Randomly Freezes Then Unfreezes

However, I upgraded to windows 8 on the same computer and the problem went away. while it's frozen it remembers commands, if I would hit the windows key when it first would freeze, the start menu would pop up when it unfroze. System 20" ACER AL2002W LCD 1680 x 1050 60 Hz Asus M2A - VM X1250 onboard graphics not the HDMI version AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (65W) Dual core socket AM2

I just built a PC and am getting this weird issue where the computer randomly freezes about 5-30 seconds then resumes. But the peculiar thing is, the sound continues off from where it froze without speeding ahead. Took about ~20 seconds to load this time.Could the SATA cables MSI sent be bugged or their ports? Try and use as many memory intensive operations as you can, games, video, etc, to put the RAM under pressure.

I installed a game on the HD and played for a bit then left the computer on to go run some errands. Using Chrome, Spotify or simply navigating normal windows have all resulted in problems lasting for several minutes and then suddenly improving. Does anyone have additional suggestions?

  • For example, downloading something @ high speed and atempting to watch a movie, playing pretty much any java-related browser game while watching a movie, or (and this is the most annoying)
  • I guess i didnt see your entire post.
  • What the disk head read off the track was not the expected position on disk.
  • Will run memtest later, it takes forever!
  • This should speed up the testing and allow you to quickly verify if it is the RAM causing the problem.
  • For instance, windows media player always caches the next 15 seconds of anything you're playing, and when this happens, it works for 15 seconds, and then it freezes.
  • ImgBurn Install the program and start the application.

Sorry to hear you've been having issues with your drive. Before I swap out the ram do you think I should put the main(SATA) HD back in the old computer and try again? Installed a new mobo, i5-2500k processor, asus gtx 560 ti gp, and some g.skill ram and i cant get the damn thing to boot. I have replugged the DVD drive now, updated its firmware an changed the controller mode in BIOS from IDE to AHCI. The freeze seem to happen even without firefox, and when i experimented playing the same movie over an external hard disk, the freeze doesn't happen again. You may also... If you only have one memory stick this method will not work. If you get freezes with both pairs of sticks then we can look elsewhere for the problem.

Automatic cleaners will usually have to do some guesswork. Im suspecting its my hard drive that I keep all my games on. I would really like to fix it without having to do a clean install. Apparently, booting in Safe Mode seems to get round the problem.
